Headed East to Las Vegas
Blue Diamond road connects Pahrump to Las Vegas. It is a one hour drive that winds through the mountain range into the LV Valley. At this time, the road was under construction with narrow lanes and construction barriers most of the journey.
Julie decided it was her turn to drive Jack and Diane out of the Resort in Pahrump and into the Oasis RV Resort in Las Vegas.
Julie drove through the gauntlet like a champ and parked all 55+ feet into the new slot on her first try. Way to go Julie!
The Oasis is the perfect location if you want quick access to the strip and airport. It is situated just south of the strip between Las Vegas Boulevard and Highway 15. We highly recommend this RV Resort.
Taking a Gamble
Julie and I took a shot at gambling at the Silverton Casino across the street. I call Julie the cooler. My game is Craps and whenever the table goes cold, I can always find Julie nearby. She tries to sneak up behind me, but when it suddenly goes from hot to cold, I can always find her nearby. I started collecting one-dollar chips from each casino that I play a game of Craps. Silverton now joins the collection. We left this day with Julie up and me down.
The kids got to enjoy The Blue Man Group and also some snow while we were here.
The Hoover Dam Experience
One “Must See” while in town is the Hoover Dam. It is a half-day trip and results in great photos and an expanded knowledge base. What was amazing to me is they were able to build this gigantic structure in less time than it takes Congress to pass a bill.
Side Trippin’
Just south of the city is Seven Magic Mountains and art piece that reminded me of Cadillac Ranch. Lots of color and a fun place to visit.
We Geocached on the way back to experience finding lost treasures.
Red Rock Canyon became a nice road trip with lots of scenic views.
We also stopped in at Lee Canyon to see if there was any snow in the mountains.
The Strip
We made a couple day trips with the kids on the strip to see up-close and firsthand the Casinos that they had seen in movies. Highlights were the Bellagio Fountains, the Mirage Volcano, Paris and NY and the Venetian Gondolas. On top of that was lots of shopping.
Julie and I found that our favorite breakfast joint – La Salsa Cantina (With 99 Cent Bloody Marys) had moved from near the MGM Grand into the Miracle Mile Shopping Center.
Lightin’ up the Sky
For Memorial Day we drove back into Pahrump to fire off tons of Fireworks to celebrate. The kids had a blast with the roman candles while I got to fire off the mortars. Arr Arrr
We could have stayed in Vegas for another month, but the heat started to become exhausting. We packed up and prepped for our first real Boondock adventure in Mammoth Lakes California…
