RWI014 - Tucson - Kickin' it with the Snowbirds
Voyager Resort
We ran from the winds in El Paso by taking a direct route along I-10 to exit 270 Kolb road into our new home The Voyager RV Resort (Encore Property). This place reminds me of a Del Web community that lets RV’rs in on their little secret. The Voyager has so many activities, amenities and clubs, we felt like we were in a vacation resort rather than just an RV spot.
Three quarters of the spaces were occupied by Park Models (permanent trailers) filled with snowbirds from the Northern States and Canada. Although most of the residents were retired, there were enough activities to fill the kids time and some we did not make time to experience (9 hole golf course).
Tombstone
Our first venture was a road trip to Tombstone to experience the Wild Wild West.
The town center brings you back to the western times, complete with saloons, hitching posts and dirt roads.
Western Characters were out and about selling their wares and inviting us to experience various gunfights.
We opted for the OK Corral gunfight show – worth the trip alone.
Saguaro National Park West
Next we loaded up the Jeep and headed off to Saguaro National Park west. On the way towards Old Tucson, we pulled off at a Tucson County Mountain Park.
We hiked to the top and photographed the sunset – Kaylin’s favorite pastime.
We didn’t make it to Old Tucson in time before it closed for the day, but the sunset experience kept us from feeling cheated.
Hiking the hills around Tucson
I quickly made friends with the Hiking club and went with them on a hike in the Sabine Canyon Recreational Area.
We hiked a paved road to the top and took the Phoneline trail back. We took the road up so that we could hike with a 92 year old to celebrate his birthday.
The Phoneline trail (9 Miles) had so many excellent views of nature that I took Julie and the kids the next day.
The saguaro cactus were everywhere and the flowers were in full bloom.
My two favorite experiences was a dead saguaro skeleton and chasing a gila monster with the video camera.
Logo Placement
The Road Warrior did well during this period – no major repairs to deal with.
I did order some vinyl stickers of our logo from Vistaprint.com and installed them myself on the front and back.
The new vinyl by 3m has microscopic holes in it – this makes it easy to apply and push out any bubbles that develop.
A novice can apply and remove these new vinyl stickers.
Bridal Wreath Falls
The last hike that I was able to do in Tucson was the Bridal Wreath Falls TraIl (5.6 Miles) in Saguaro National Park.
This was an uphill trail all the way to the waterfalls which was flowing pretty well because of the amount of snow in the area this year.
Biosphere II
While I was in my office in the sky, Julie and the kids went to Biosphere II, and Arizona Senora Desert Museum.
We did not get a chance to go to Old Tucson or The Pima Air Museum this time, but I know we will be back so I just rolled with it.
Sonora Desert Museum
During our last few days in The Voyager, we met with @sojourningsmiths who we met online through instagram.
Our stories are similar in that we both sold our homes and started the full-time RV life around the same time.
They also have kids in online school and Geoff works while on the road. We immediately hit it off with Dawn and Geoff and the kids also had an instant connection.
Our original plan was to head North to Phoenix, Sedona and Flagstaff. But, staying with our theme of Rollin’ With It, we headed North on I-10 and West towards the Lights of Las Vegas…
